Parthenon Metope Detail
This metope, one of fifteen in the British Museum's permanent collection depicts chaos erupting between a Lapith and a centaur. The metope is severely damaged, with the Lapith missing both his head and his right leg, below the knee. The centaur is missing both his head, as well as his front right leg. -
Metopes from the Parthenon
The British Museum currently has fifteen of the ninety-two the original Parthenon metopes within their permanent collection. The metopes, which decorated the exterior of the temple, just above the exterior colonnade depicted a mythological battle between the Lapiths and the centaurs. Many of the metopes are missing hands, feet, knees, arms, and legs. -
Frieze from the Parthenon
The British Museum currently has 247 feet (75 m.) of the original Parthenon frieze within their permanent collection. The frieze was the sculpted high-relief, which adorned the upper part, or naos of the Parthenon. In the exhibit space, each section of the frieze has a placard, which describes the scene depicted on the section of frieze as well as the cardinal direction and number in the frieze series. The marble frieze, which dates c. 438- 432 BC, depicts a Panathenaic procession. -
Eastern Pediment Parthenon Sculpture
Eastern pedimental sculpture from the Parthenon depicts the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus. Much of the sculpture from the ancient structure is severely damaged from the passage of time, as well as an explosion, which occurred inside the Parthenon in 1687, as a result of the Turks storing gunpowder inside of the structure. The freestanding sculptures are currently on display in Room 18 of the British Museum in London, England. -

The memorandum contains a paper titled, "Apollo - Should It Be Committed to Weightlessness." This paper contains information about artificial gravity and the effects of prolonged periods of weightlessness on human beings and chimpanzees. -

One of the pacing items in this Nation's accelerated space program is the construction of facilities for the manufacture, development, testing, check-out, transportation and launching of space vehicles. Behind each successful launching are countless hours of effort in development, quality and reliability checks and tests of engines, components, boosters, and stacked stages; including pressure tests, cold-flow tests and hot firing (or static) tests; all to assure the safest possible trip for the men or instrumentation in the space craft. -
Letter from Martha Holliman in Lynchburg, Virginia, to Frances Roberts in Huntsville, Alabama.
Holliman was one of Roberts' students at Huntsville High School. She describes her first days at Randolph-Macon College and thanks Roberts for her excellent teaching. -

Press Release : S-IC simulator--Immediate release.
Huntsville, Ala. -- NASA Marshall Space Flight Center engineers and scientists will soon begin using a giant Saturn V booster simulator in making various tests of equipment and facilities here and at Michoud Operations, Mississippi Test Operations and Cape Kennedy. -
Oral History Interview With Edwin Pruitt
Edwin Pruitt is from a small town in Alabama. He went to Auburn University, and when he was a sophomore there, he applied to a co-op position. In this co-op, he was assigned to a flight-dynamics group. Edwin was not satisfied with this position, so he asked to be switched to another one. In this new co-op, he was able to drive around on the simulated moon surface. Some things he was also involved in was diving into the Neutral Buoyancy Simulator, flying on the KC-135, and he had the freedom to represent his group with other part of the center where he worked. After Edwin graduated from college, he got a job at GE Aerospace in Valley Forge. They had a contract with the Airforce to train the Airforce astronauts. He eventually got laid off from this position, and he next got a job at Teledyne Brown Engineering. After working there for a couple of years, he found a job at Matrix in Huntsville. After working here, he found a job at Essex working on proposals.Tags Oral History -

Letter to Harry M. Ayers from William S. Pritchard.
Pritchard writes to Ayers in response to his January 4, 1958 letter regarding the reinstatement of Colonel John C. Nickerson, Jr. He details what he believes to be "the exact facts in the Nickerson case." He states that Nickerson was in violation of Army orders and therefore is not qualified to serve in a facility like Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. -

The RL10, which powers the National Aeronautics and Space Administration' s Saturn S-IV, is the newest propulsion system to be put to work in advancing our nation's space effortr On November 27, 1963, a pair of RLlO's successfully powered a five-ton Centaur space vehicle in earth orbit in the first flight demonstration of the outer space powerplant which uses high-nenergy liquid hydrogen as fuel. A six-engine cluster of RLlO' s, generating a total of 90, 000 pounds of thrust, powers the Saturn S-IV stage. The 15, 000 pound-thrust engine was designed and developed for NASA's Mar shall Space Flight Center at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft's Florida Research and Development Center, 20 miles northwest of West Palm Beach. -

Statement of Sarah Pool.
The statement of Sarah Pool tells of her encounter with Mrs. Hazel in 1845 in Mississippi. She details the "strange stories" told by Mrs. Hazel and how she accused Mrs. McDavid of stealing and had "opened her bundle," a reference made in William Conner's letter to Abner Tate, that supposedly contained some medicines. Mrs. Hazel then asked Sarah to convey the story to Mrs. McDavid to which Sarah said Mrs. McDavid acted surprised at the accusations. Sarah also tells how Mrs. Hazel spoke of Mr. Tate and his right hand man involved in the murder of a man who she could not name. -
Partial statement of John P. Pool.
In these pieces of John's statement, John corroborates that which his wife Sarah said in her statement. The small pieces of paper detail the strange stories told by Mrs. Hazel that were out of character and not representative of the people she spoke of. He also mentions what she stated of the murder of the man she cannot name and how a Mrs. Jones assisted by covering the "offensive smell." He also writes of Mrs. Hazel's accusations of Mrs. McDavid stealing her money and medicines. In the larger piece, John Pool brings up the porch location that she supposedly witnessed the murdered man from. -
Copy of "Tale of the Old Times: When the Train Stalled" by Arnold Pollak.
A copy of a story written by Arnold Pollak titled "Tales of the Old Times: When the Train Stalled." This article recounts a time when Pollak's train was stalled in Texas and, being told it would be two more more hours before it started moving again, he engaged in trading fish and wanted to trade the samples for a new cigar jobber. When the train started moving before he was done, Pollak started running but unable to catch the train, Pollak's friend Oscar Goldsmith pulled the rope to stop the train. Handwritten note reads: "Copy from the Tobacco Leaf N. Y. of May 29/26". -
Correspondence to Oscar Goldsmith regarding fifty shares of Dallas Mnfg. Co. stock.
The first letter notes that they are "drawing on [Goldsmith]" for $2,250.00 for 25 shares as they could only get 25 shares according to the handwritten note at the botton. Plater also asks if Goldsmith is in the market for more stock. The second and third letter details fifty available shares of Dallas Mnfg. Co. stock at $87.50 per share and confirms Goldsmith's purchase of said shares. -
