This photograph shows the main entrance to the older wing of Morton Hall, which was constructed in 1961. It was most recently renovated in the late 2010s and reopened with a new wing in fall 2020.
The Conrad Swanson Observatory, located at 100 Observatory Dr SE in Huntsville, is owned and operated by the Von Braun Astronomical Society. The Swanson Observatory was built in 1956 and has had many additions and changes to it.
Grand Cleaners, located at 801 Franklin St. SE in Huntsville, was owned and operated by Shelby and Lou Johnson. The Grand Cleaners building opened in 1947 as a state-of-the-art drycleaning facility. Sterling Travel Agency now occupies the building.
The “Gothic Church” of First Baptist Church Huntsville was located here before it was torn down and the congregation moved to the current church building on Governors Dr. It is now a Regions corporate office building that was completed in 1990.
The congregation of First Baptist Church Huntsville moved into this new (and current as of Oct 2024) church building in 1963 but it wasn’t completed until 1966. Since then, renovations and expansions have been made to the church.
Merrimack Mill was a mill that sponsored a number of things and created a booming industry for the town. Later it opened up the Joe S. Bradley school, and the mill was eventually turned into Huntsville park.
