Space Journal, vol. 1, no. 1., Summer 1957.
This issue of Space Journal includes articles written by Fred L. Whipple, Hermann Oberth, and Ernst Stuhlinger, as well as a foreword by Wernher von Braun. The issue also includes drawings for an observatory to be built at the top of Monte Sano Mountain in Huntsville, Alabama. Produced by the Rocket City Astronomical Association (now known as the Von Braun Astronomical Society), Space Journal was published in Huntsville from 1957 to 1959. This digitized copy was generously provided by Jeff Bennett at the Von Braun Astronomical Society (VBAS). -

This photo was taken at the time of Roberts' doctoral graduation from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was the first woman to receive a Ph.D. in history from the University of Alabama. On either side of her are Howard C. Elliot, Jr., Ph.D. in biochemistry, and Elmer Dean Calloway, Ph.D. in chemistry. -

Photograph from the inaugural Madison County Women's Scroll of Honor ceremony.
Frances Roberts, shown at center, was named to the Madison County Women's Scroll of Honor in 1976. According to the Huntsville Times, recipients of the honor "are native to or identified most closely with Huntsville and Madison County and who have made significant contributions within their professional fields of activity or concern." Roberts was honored alongside Huntsville artist and poet Maria Howard Weeden (1847-1905). The award is a project of the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama. -

Roberts received a Bachelor of Science from Alabama State Teachers College in 1937. The college is known today as the University of West Alabama. -
1945-1946 Journal of Gerhard Reisig Dipl.-Ing.
Gerhard Reisig Dipl.-Ing., later Dr. Gerhard Reisig, was a German-American rocket scientist that worked on the team of von Braun at Fort Bliss. This journal covers his journey to the United States under Operation Paperclip, and includes descriptions of his experience to and through his arrival on December 6th, 1946. In this journal, he discusses numerous parts of his travel and experience in the United States including the rail route taken by the group he was in, reviews of two films of the time, comments on fashion and American society, as well as periodic mentions of food culture especially early in the journal. He additionally copies several articles by hand, some in English, some translated, from periodicals, particularly Time magazine. -
