Select... The UAH Library purchased the Willy Ley Collection from Ley's widow, Olga, in 1970. The UAH Library purchased the Willy Ley Collection from Mrs. Ley in 1970. At the time the UAH Library was located in the Graduate Studies Building (later renamed Madison Hall). The invitation lists individual and group donors to the library, memorials. It also notes a special gift of the "Freedom Shrine," a collection of historic American documents, from the Exchange Club of Huntsville and Thiokol Chemical Corporation. At the time, Rudolph was retired from NASA as the former manager of the Saturn V program at Marshall Space Flight Center. The UAH Library purchased the Willy Ley Collection from Ley's widow, Olga, in 1970. Before UAH built a dedicated library in the late 1960s, the library was located in Morton Hall. In this letter, librarian Christel McCanless requests that the recipient return any library materials that they have and are no longer using. The letter has spaces for the date, recipient's name, and the materials the recipient needs to return. In this memo, members of the English Department protest the removal of library materials from Morton Hall to the Graduate Studies Building (later Madison Hall). The writers report their concern that "the housing of English materials in the graduate studies building, we are convinced, will prohibit the students' availing themselves of library facilities." Includes notes handwritten by Librarian Christel McCanless. McCanless, then the head librarian, is shown at far right. On the front row, left to right, are David Christensen, Arthur Rudolph, Wernher von Braun, and Olga Ley. The Freedom Shrine is a collection of historic American documents and a program of the National Exchange Club.
