Hereford, III, John Cashin Jr., William Pearson, and Fred Carodine were the speakers in this lecture given at Alabama A&M University. Spragins Hall is seen in the background. Stromecky was the founder of the UAH Soccer team and first coach. He led the UAH soccer team to 16 NAIA District Championships, and 6 NAIA National Tournaments. Stromecky was also a professor of Russian. Strout worked in career planning at UAH. Taylor Branch is the speaker in this lecture given at University of Alabama in Huntsville. The building is now known as Von Braun Research Hall. The building was first known as the Administrative Science Building. The building was then known as the Science and Engineering Building. The campus lake and the Research Institute can be seen in the background. The caption on the back reads, "ANNOUNCING SPERRY GIFT TO UAH-- Governor George C. Wallace (seated) seen above announcing the Sperry Corporation's gift to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) of $3.2 million in computer hardware and software. Joining the Governor for the Announcement on April 16 in Montgomery office were Vern Dykema, Vice President of the Sperry Corporation, and Dr. John C. Wright, President of UAH." The cemetery is located on the UAH campus behind Morton Hall. The chart is blank and has room to record the date borrowed, name of borrower, A-V material borrowed, and whether or not the equipment was returned. The class is studying the book The Negro in the Making of America by Benjamin Arthur Quarles. The complex was then known as University Housing. The contest was held at the Engineering Building and was sponsored by the UAH Society of Women Engineers. The document outlines costs associated with laboratories and graduate coursework in math, physics, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering. The downtown skyline, including Huntsville City Hall and the Madison County Courthouse, can be seen in the background. The flier discusses coordination of library services between the UAH Library, the Research Institute, and Redstone Scientific Information Center. The float is parked on the side of Ben Graves Drive. The float was made by Marshall Space Flight Center. Von Braun Research Hall can be seen in the background. The photo likely dates from the 1980s or early 1990s, when the NASA worm logo was still in use, as seen on the sides of the float. The flood was caused by a broken pipe. Community Housing was located at the corner of Lancewood Drive and University Drive. The Twin Oaks Apartments can be seen in the background. The forum included a scholarship presentation and awards dinner given by the National Space Club. Special guests were musician John Denver, Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison Schmitt, and engineer Ernst Stuhlinger. The four brick Southeast Campus Residence Halls can be seen in the background on the left. The library can be seen in the background. The Nursing Building can be seen in the background. The photo may have been taken at an event celebrating Davis' flight on either STS-47 in 1992 or STS-60 in 1994. The banner in the background reads, "Jan Davis / A Golden Homecoming." The photo was taken in the Admissions and Records Information Office. The photograph shows Spragins Hall, Roberts Hall, the Nursing Building, the Library, and Wilson Hall. The photograph shows the College of Engineering team paddling on the campus lake. The photograph was taken for a summer 1979 issue of the UAH student newspaper, the Exponent . The press conference was related to the Eminent Scholars program. Wright served as president of UAH from 1978 to 1988. The program includes a diagram of the arrangement of the collection, a brief biographical sketch of Ley, and a program for the "Ley Memorial Symposium on Science and Technology in the 1970's." Willy Ley died in 1969. The UAH Library purchased his book collection from his widow, Olga Ley, in 1970. The program includes details of the lunch program, including performances by the UAH Village Singers and the dedication of the Ambulatory Care Center. Program honorees included John R. Morton, Philip M. Mason, H. Clyde Reeves, former Vice President for Huntsville Affairs; and Ben Graves, UAH's first president. The Research Institute can be seen in the background. The results of an OMSF AS-201 Interlock and RCA 110A Computer Review were published. Recognizing that this was a "quick look", it was determined that a more detailed approach should be taken with respect to interlocks for the duration of the Saturn IB-V program. The side of the float reads, "Santa's Coming in a Row Boat / U.A.H. on the Move!" The sign reads, "This circa 1840 Greek Revival church was donated to UAH by Mr. and Mrs. C. Franklin Bendall. It was moved from its original site near Hazel Green, Alabama to this location in January 1974. Restoration was done by students of the UAH Art Department." The Southeast Campus Residence Halls can be seen in the background. The suggested contributions include funding, journal subscriptions, and reference tools. The UAH Library can be seen in the background. The UAH Library purchased the Willy Ley Collection from Mrs. Ley in 1970. The UAH student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers has competed in the National Concrete Canoe Competition since 1988. This document outlines library hours, location of books and periodicals, and circulation procedures. This flier advertises a two day period during which no fines will be charged on overdue library books if they are returned on Wednesday, December 11 and "Thursday, December 12 from 10 A.M -- 10 P.M. at the Huntsville Center Library." This handbill includes schedules for UAH soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, and ice hockey for the 1983-1984 season. The schedule was sponsored by the UAH Baptist Campus Ministries. This headstone is located in the Jones family cemetery behind Morton Hall. The headstone notes that Jones was a captain in the 1st Regiment of the Light Dragoons in the Revolutionary War. There is some dispute as to whether Jones is actually buried there. This image was featured in Vol. 16, No. 1 of the UAH Exponent student newspaper. This is a typed list of the journal subscriptions for the library in 1962-1963 with additional journals written at the bottom of the list. At the top of the document, there is a written note to "Dr. Roberts," presumably history professor Frances Roberts, requesting she renew all of the subscriptions. This leaflet includes a schedule for the 1989-1990 UAH hockey season, a diagram of Von Braun Center (VBC) seating, and a ticket order form. This pamphlet features photographs taken by Alabama photographer Charles Moore during the civil rights era. Speakers listed include Fred Gray, Fred Shuttlesworth, Sonnie Hereford, and John Lewis. This virtual talk includes a lecture from Dr. Tom Reidy, editor of the 2020 edition of Frances Roberts' 1956 dissertation, with comments and moderation by UAH Head of Archives and Special Collections Reagan Grimsley and History Department Chair Stephen Waring. The talk was given as part of an Alabama Humanities Alliance grant, in partnership with the UAH M. Louis Salmon Library, the UAH Humanities Center, and the UAH History Department. Today this sign is on display in the Archives and Special Collections reading room on the ground floor of the library. The UAH Library purchased the Willy Ley Collection from Ley's widow, Olga, in 1970. Tom Bevill is shown at center. Also attending the ribbon cutting are Bill Chappel Jr., U.S. Rep. Ronnie Flippo, Dr. Walter G. Nunn, and Lt. Gen. E.R. Heiberg III. U.S. Rep. John Lewis and Mary Stanton are the speakers in this lecture given at Alabama A&M University. UAH awarded Roberts, who was at the time Professor Emerita in the History Department, an honorary doctorate in December 1993. UAH held classes at West Huntsville High School in the 1950s before the university had its own campus. UAH organized the conference as part of the annual John Sparkman Symposium on United States Foreign Policy. According to the 1979 conference proceedings, the symposium was "founded to bring major issues in United States foreign policy to public discussion by providing a forum in which scholars and experts from government or the private sector might meet." The conference featured speakers including historians, military officers, political scientists, and politicians from Huntsville and across the United States. UAH player Chris O'Halloran (9) is also in the shot, at right. UAH players are shown in the darker jerseys. The Mayor's Cup was an annual competition between Alabama A&M and UAH athletics. UAH players in the shot are Adam Fuller (11) and Scott Humphrey (12). UAH coach Carlos Petersen sits on the sideline with players. Bleachers and sidelines are shown in the background. UAH players in the shot are Chris O'Halloran (9), Adam Fuller (11), and Hassan Hassan (10). UAH players in the shot are R. David Sorrell (2), Chris O'Halloran (9), Paul Tedesco (6), and Ricky Crawford (8). Bleachers and the Bellarmine sideline are shown in the background. The UAH Library is visible through the trees. UAH players visible in the shot are Chris O'Halloran (9), Ricky Crawford (8), Roye Locklear (7), and Scott Humphrey (12). Holmes Avenue is visible in the background. UAH President Frank Franz is shown at back left. UAH soccer players in the shot are Ivan Zujovic (14), Ricky Crawford, and Chris O'Halloran (9). UAH soccer players in the shot are Scott Humphrey (12), Ricky Crawford (8), Paul Tedesco (6), Chris O'Halloran (9), and Adam Fuller (11). Homes on Brickell Rd. in Huntsville are seen in the background. University Housing is now Southeast Campus Housing. Vikram taught applied optics at UAH and was involved with the International Society for Optical Engineering. Wernher von Braun and UAH President Ben Graves can be seen in the background. The UAH Library purchased the Willy Ley Collection from Mrs. Ley in 1970. Wilson joined UAH in 1972 as faculty in the Deparment of Biological Sciences and served as the Dean of the College of Science from 1984 until his death in 1991. The photograph shows members of his family viewing the portrait. Wright served as president of UAH from 1978 to 1988.
