Huntsville was considered as a location for a Center.
Sep. 1941 - War-Training at Huntsville
From 1941 to 1945, war training is offered by the University of Alabama, in Huntsville.
Apr. 1947 - Beginnings of the Center
Some of the public begin to propose a new University Center.
Sep. 1948 - Surveying Opinions
Surveys report that many people support a University Center in Huntsville.
1949 - Campus Found
West Huntsville High School agrees to let the new Center use its campus when the high school isn't.
Jan. 1950 - University Extension Center Opened
The first semblance of UAH is opened for community use.
1951 - Graduate Classes
The first graduate classes are offered in Huntsville.
1953 - First Full-Time Staff Member
Dr. Frances C. Roberts becomes the first full-time staff member at the University Center in Huntsville.
1957 - More Classes
Up to three years are now completable at UAH.
Dec. 1960 - Morton Hall Constructed
The first building on the modern campus, Morton Hall, is built.
1961 - Research Institute
The Research Institute is founded and constructed to house research work.
1963 - Integration
Dave McGlathery becomes the first student to integrate the University Center.
May 1964 - Degrees Offered - Name Changed
The university begins offering degrees fully earned in Huntsville.
Sep. 1964 - First Freshmen
The first freshman class enters campus.
1965 - Student Government
The Student Government Association is founded.
1966 - Faculty Assembled
The first Faculty Assembly is established.
Sep. 1966 - Branching Out
The Center becomes a Branch of the University of Alabama.
1967 - Graduates
The Graduate Studies Building is constructed.
1969 - More Construction
The Student Union, Library, and Science and Engineering Building are constructed.
1969 - Splitting Up
The UA system officially decides to split apart the schools.
1970 - To Have a Purpose
UAH makes their first statement of purpose.
1971 - Nursing
A program for nursing is created and establishes itself, gaining a new building as a home in 1976.
1971 - Expanding Horizons
The Humanities Building is constructed, providing room for the Humanities to grow as a field.
Jul. 1972 - Splitting Up Further
Multiple schools are established to provide independent resources.
1973 - Changing a Name
The Graduate Studies Building is renamed.
1975 - New Construction and Old Buildings
Union Grove Gallery, Environmental Studies Wing, and Auto Diagnostic Testing Center are established.
Dec. 1975 - Just Up the Road
The first mentions of the Noojin House under possession of UAH occur in the student newspapers, catalogs, and bulletin boards.
1976 - A Home for Nursing
The Nursing Building is constructed to provide a location to study nursing.
Mar. 1978 - A Home for Athletics
Marion Beirne Spragins Hall is completed and dedicated.
Apr. 1980 - Springfest and Disc Golf
Springfest 1980 opens and features an 18 hole disc golf course.
1984 - A Center in the University
The University Center is constructed to provide a central location for campus functions.
Jan. 1985 - A New Home in Engineering
The Engineering Building is constructed to provide more space for the Engineering department.
Jan. 1987 - History Made on Superconductivity
Graduate student researchers make a groundbreaking discovery in superconductivity.
May 1988 - Dedication to a Humanities Professor
The Humanities Building is dedicated to Dr. Frances C. Roberts.
1988 - Yet More Construction
Bevill Center and the new WLRH building are constructed.
1990 - A Home for the Administrative Sciences
The Administrative Sciences Building is constructed to house that college.
1992 - Home for Specialized Sciences
The Optics Building and Materials Science Building are opened for research and studies.
May 1993 - Honoring a Science Professor
The Science and Engineering Building is dedicated to Dr. Harold J. Wilson.
1996 - Honoring a Civic Leader
The UAH Library is dedicated to M. Louis Salmon.
1998 - Olin B. King Technology Hall
UAH gains the use of the building now known as Olin B. King Technology Hall.
May 2000 - Honoring Von Braun
The Research Hall is named after locally significant rocket science pioneer, Dr. Wernher von Braun.
2001 - Selling an Old Home
The University sells the Noojin House to India House LLC.
Apr. 2004 - Shelbie King Hall
Shelbie King Hall is donated and dedicated.
2005 - Robert "Bud" Cramer
Robert "Bud" Cramer Research Hall is first named that way.
Oct. 2007 - A Building for Applied Sciences
A new building, made for Applied Sciences is named after Senator Richard Shelby and his wife.
Feb. 2010 - Faculty Shooting
An upset faculty member kills and injures multiple of her colleagues.
2014 - Renovations
A new expansion is added to the Nursing Building a long with renovation of the existing structure.
2015 - Deconstruction
Madison Hall is demolished.
2016 - New Home for Student Services
The Student Services Building is constructed where Madison Hall once stood.
2020 - Morton Hall in the 21st Century
A renovation and expansion is performed on the oldest building on campus, Morton Hall.
